How much cast on would I need for adult size blanket with 8″ needles or with 10″ needles?
I need to find out how much to cast on for the adult size blanklet? I have two yarns to work from I was curious to see how much to cast on. If anyone could help me that would be great!
The guy is right.
A good swatch piece to work would be one say 40 stitches by 40 rows so you get a good feel of how you knit (guage).
You use all these swatch pieces to measure your personal gauge on that size needles. (The pieces can often be used for potholders or hot pads).
Then you measure the piece and make an equation: So many rows = 2 inches, so many stitches = 2 inches (or whatever is a good).
Then say you want a 60 inch long by 60 inch wide spread. That is about adult for an afghan.
You would calculate 60 inches X rows = 2 inches (60 / 2 or 30 times the stitches in 2 inches) to get length. For width so many rows = 2 inches X 30 to get your 60 inch long pattern.
Then just make it that size according to your guage.
