why does the front tire on my road bike keep going lower on air?
I was told rubber loses air naturally with time, they are gatorskin tires on a 1996 cannondale R300 aluminum road bike. I rode a 200 miler on this bike and the pressure kept dropping from 120 lbs to 80 lbs pressure between fill-ups. Why? Is it pressure put on the front tire? I don’t ride it but every few weeks, and the pressure drops. I can understand that. But why during a ride? Is this bike fit for a 115 mountain climb ride? There may be some shit in the tire inner wall poking at the tube, though I doubt it. I’ve installed three tubes, presta, and they kept blowing at the valve. I hear it is better to ride on a full pressure tire because it is better for it. W/o telling me to get a tune-up, what advice may you have?
the thing felt like a sledge hammer the other day and I was really worried/upset about not having a good ride.
‘blowing at the valve’ – is that different from leaking?
take a leaky tube out and do the water-tank dunk test to see where the leak is
how are you measuring pressure?
because you can easily let out 40lbs, in a small whoosh, just getting a gauge on, if you aren;t fast
and with a presta valve, you have to let some air out just to check it
