Street Racing: How It Came To Be
The street racing is another level of drag racing. Drag racing begins with the influence of hot rods. Hot rods are cars specially modified for improved acceleration and speed that were first built in southern California in the late 1930s. Drag racing was formalized in 1937 with the creation of an organization of automobile enthusiasts – Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) who raced their cars in the California desert. The sport was pause during the World War II and became popular again in the early 1950s as soldiers from the World War II got hooked up totally with the sport.
The first paved strips for drag racing were runways at air bases and airports. The sports establish its name very quickly and nowadays, drag racing is considered as a form of specialized car racing, with hundred of drag tracks facilities are now available which organized more than 5000 events yearly. It is most popular in the United States and practiced on limited basis in England, Canada and Australia.
The street racing used to involve a crowd that conducts its activities secretly to prevent the attention of the authority. This is commonly done in streets that are straight, located in an isolated industrial area and less public motorist to use. Street race drivers and audience gather themselves at a famous gathering area then convoy to the location and mark the 1/4 or 1/8 mile track. You would usually see cars line up at the starting line while starters stand in between them and drops his or her hand to starts the race once watching a street racing videos. Street racing is usually unorganized and impromptu in nature. Sometimes, the race is just meant to prove something or facing up to the challenge of strangers.
The fact that males always had what they call a “profound need for speed”, it is no longer restricted to the males of the United States. This has also seriously happening in Canada, France, New Zealand, Australia, England and Germany. Every weekend in thousand of communities, the racing tradition in the United States are being replayed. Street races today are in orchestrated functions involving flaggers, timekeepers, lookouts equipped with computers mounted on their cars, police scanners, cell phones, two-way radios and walkie-talkies.
Usual citizen in the country do not agree with street racing because it brings harm to the public and to the racers itself. Apart of that, the car racing fanatics will tell you that street racing is more than just a race between two cars. It requires talent and a lot of courage to be involving with the game It involves being one with the car.
