Help needed with my Avid BB5 brakes!!!?
Hey guys, I just got a new bike on saturday (2009 Dawes XC 1.6) and its got less than 5 miles on it…. but the front Avid BB5 brakes are giving me trouble. Whenever Im going slowly, they make a screeching sounds (when they are not applied). And when I apply them at speed, the whole bike seems to judder about, and they make a sound like there is something catching on them. Any ideas what this could be and how I could fix it? Thanks guys 
BTW the brakes have been rubbing on the rotor when not applied, but I assumed this is cause they are new and that it was normal. Am I right?
The BB’5s have a pad adjustment knob for setting the distance between the pads and the rotor, and adjusting for pad wear. The(BB5 has inboard knob only) If you look at the brake you will find a RED knob on the inside of the brake, once you locate that knob just turn the inboard knob clockwise one click at a time it will back off the brake pads slightly so the wheel spins free and keep it from making noise and shouldn’t affect the brake in stopping you. As I said the BB5 only has a one sided adjustment. They probably set the bike up at the shop and have the Brakes Set to tight and it’s pushing on the inside of the rotor. I run the same brakes on one of my trikes and I’m installing BB7s on the other Trike. It’s not a problem just a minor adjustment.
Edit: Mt Bikr If you want to get technical, the rotor could be warped also but 99% of the time it’s a simple fix and I would start at with adjusting the brake Pads before adjusting Calipers and replacing brake Pads and Rotors. It’s called the process of elimination. I would also bet if you take it to the Bike shop they will start with the brake pad adjustment first also.
