My brother spilt oil on his bicycle disk brakes and now they don’t work… any ideas?
They need cleaning somehow…he’s tried hot soapy water and then white spirit, but neither did any good…
He’s going to get the pads changed, but there’s no point until his disks are clean too…
He tried cleaning it with white spirit and that didnt work…He also tried hot soapy water. We need suggestions on what to clean the disks with so they dont contaminate the new pads.
Buy a can of aerosol brake parts cleaner. It is safe on all the brake parts. Keep the over spray off painted parts as some paints and this kind of solvent are not compatible. The pads could be holding oil as they are somewhat porous.

Edit: Bob A, do not wipe parts sprayed with brake parts cleaner as they are designed to evaporate the oils they attack from the surface. If you wipe them you will cause some of the oils to remain.
