Are bike Disc Brake pads supposed to be of equal thickness?
I just recently got a new bike (in the mail!), and I assembled it myself, and it came with disc brakes. However, the rotor scratches against the brake pads. I took it apart, and see that the two brake pads are of DIFFERENT thickness, and so it can’t align properly with the rotor. Is this normal, having brake pads of different thickness? Thanks!
To my knowledge, pads should be equal thickness when they’re new. If adjustment instructions aren’t included with the bike, you should be able to look them up online by searching the manufacturer and model of the brakes.
I should also add that a local bike shop would have done these adjustments for you, if you’d bought from them. Dispensing with their services probably saved you a few bucks, but look where it’s left you.
