Learn This Before You Buy Schwinn Midmoor
As the time marches on, we get older and less inclined to ride a bike bent over at a 45 degree angle playing chicken with vehicles and rocks at 60 mph. 10 years ago I wouldn’t be caught dead on a bike like this.Prior to I’ve had this bike, I’ve had I’ve had a Specialized Rock Hopper mountain bike plus a Nishiki road bike, they had been a lot more pricey than this bike and medium priced.Recently, my girl friend has been pressuring me to get a bike to accompany her on the American River Bike Trail here in Sacramento, and also for a trip to the Grand Tetons/Yellowstone this summer. My gonzo biking days are over, so I wanted the cheapest, most decent, most comfortable bike I could uncover. Consumer Reports rated this a very best purchase, so I decided to purchase 1 from Amazon.
It arrived 3 days following ordering in a box measuring 54″ length, 29″ width, and 7.5″ depth. The bike was incredibly properly packed plus the exterior of the box had only minor shipping scuffs. The box was so effectively packed that it took me 20 minutes to get rid of all the foam, cardboard, and protective do-dads. It came using the rear wheel attached towards the frame, as well as the only assembly required was the handlebars, front wheel, pedals, and also the seat. The front wheel quick release was packed separately and had to be installed, which only requires pushing it by means of the hub.
The assembly was not a challenge for me as I’ve completely overhauled bikes within the past, but for anyone who is not mechanically inclined, you may want to have a bike shop assemble the bike and perform minor adjustments. I did need to tweak the rear brakes, as they were not centered, and I noticed the rear wheel was incredibly slightly off accurate, but not too poor and that may be adjusted by tightening or loosening the spokes. It can be better to have a bike shop do that. Surprisingly, all the gears shift with no adjustment at all.
As for fit, I’m 6′ 1″, and standing over the bike with my feet on the ground, there is three.5-4 inches of clearance among the top tube and my crotch, which is excellent for me. I think this bike would be OK for any one 5′ 9″ or taller, just make sure there’s clearance among the top tube and your crotch to reduce harm to the family members jewels. Sitting commonly on the bike, I ride in a nearly upright position, though the handlebars could be adjusted to lean forward additional if that is your desire. Many people complained about the seat, but I come across it OK for the intended purpose of this bike and program to keep it. The pedals don’t impress me significantly, and I may possibly change to these or one thing similar. Strapless Toe Clips would support too, but clip-ins could be overkill on this bike.
I have been riding the bike about town for a week and every little thing works with no troubles. People that I meet are amazed that I only spent $229 for this thing. I do have some concerns however. The front wheel fast release can be a little rough, which wouldn’t matter that considerably, except I’ve to take the front wheel off to get the bike in my Honda Civic. Also I’m concerned about the reality that the wheels only have 24 spokes, which is about half of what a regular bike has. The spokes are thicker than regular, but I feel it would be pretty straightforward to taco the rims with rough treatment, so no riding over curbs and catching air.
Except for a couple of comparatively minor concerns, I think this bike is an amazingly very good deal and comparable to a bike costing twice as a lot. Just maintain in mind its intended purpose. This is a hybrid/comfort bike and meant for bike trails and pavement, and perhaps smooth dirt roads. It’s not meant to be taken down ski runs within the summer. Yes some of my buddies do that, with burly mountain bikes not surprisingly!

Just wanted to add that I am still very happy with this bike, though I noticed that the cost has gone up. Even so, it really is nonetheless a good value in the present cost. I’ve made a number of modifications that men and women may possibly be considering. I replaced the stock pedals with the highly rated “MKS Sylvan Touring Pedal Double Sided” and added “Delta Bicycle Strapless Toe clips” strapless clips. Exceptional 5 star Japanese produced pedals–a best match for this bike, and worth the cost. The Delta strapless toe clips are a little smaller for my size 11 shoe, but otherwise function fantastic. I replaced the stock Handlebar Grips with “WTB Comfort Zone Grips” purchased at REI. Now my hands don’t tingle on lengthy rides. They appear to be similar to the affordable Avenir Comfy Soft grips offered from Amazon. A different tip–I don’t care what Schwinn or the tire corporation says, do not inflate the tires much more than 30 lbs, unless you would like to obtain a whole lot of flats. Constantly carry the “Park Tool TR-1 Tire and Tube Repair Kit” as well as a modest pump like the “Topeak Masterblaster Bike Pump With Gauge”. Both the patch kit and the pump are extremely rated.
