Corrections center inmates refurbish bykes for tykes
The Washington Corrections Center for Women’s bicycle program trains inmates to take cast-off bikes — some in very poor condition — and make them into “new” vehicles for needy children. The program was launched by then-Superintendent Belinda Stewart in 2003 and was modeled after one at the now-defunct McNeil Island Corrections Center.
