why not use the 9X19mm luger cartridge?
It seems that everyone has been hating on the venerable 9x19mm luger cartridge lately. Despite the fact that it is ballistically superior to the .380ACP and .38 sp. Even the new .327fed is pushing 115gr at 1000fps um the 9 has done that forever….
I think that too many people are going by ballistic charts myself. A highly decorated Vietnam Tunnel rat carried a 25 ACP according to “the tunnels of cu chi” the 32 was police issue for years. I think people just think bigger is better. The aging .357 magnum has killed everything from a charging polar bear in national geographic to charging rhino on the history channel sooo…..
The 9x19mm Luger is a good cartridge.
There are more potent cartridges, but the firearms to use those cartridges (and the cartridges themselves) may weigh more, cost more and recoil more.
The 9mm is popular because of its characteristics. It’s user-friendly, economical for practice and effective in life-or-death situations with the proper selection of bullets.
I like the .380ACP and the .38 Special for the above reasons too. Yes, I know they all have their limitations, but they’re fun to shoot.
