Should I get this Trek 400?
I am looking into getting my first road bike and i came across this Trek and became interested.
It’s a trek 400

Im not really a bike expert and I don’t really know what to look for. Is this bike worth it? I wouldn’t want to end up paying more than i need to. Also, I am 5’3 and this bike is 46cm..would this been too short for me? according to the charts im supposed to have a 48-51 cm bike. do 3 cms really make a difference? can’t i just put the set up a bit?

The 46cm frame size may or may not work. It all depends on the stand-over height of the bike & your own leg length, arm length, etc. There’s only one sure-fire way to find out — test ride it. You should have an inch or so of clearance. If you feel all bunched up on the bike it’s too small. Or, if you need to raise the saddle up extremely high – the bike is too small. YES – 3cm can make a huge difference. Even one or two cm’s can make a difference.
Also, the price is too high for a bike that old with shifters on the down tube. Try more along the lines of $250 – $275.
More on sizing… With a pedal in the 6 O’Clock position, there should be only a slight bend in the knee with the ball of your foot on the pedal. Anything more than a slight bend (very slight) raise the saddle. See 2nd link – a help video from Bicycle Tutor.
