difference between a singlespeed chainring and a multispeed chainring?
i know that on a bike with multiple gears the chainrings teeth are cut at an angle to allow it to change easier whereas a single speed chain ring has straight teeth. what is this called? im trying to buy a new chaing ring to make a singlespeed and i want to look to make sure that the teeth arent cut at an angle.
Multi-speed chain rings have ramps, shaped teeth and sometimes pins to assist in gear changes. A single speed won’t need these. Also, a standard single speed ring will be thicker in cross section for use with the wider 1/8 chain normally used on SS bikes.
