would the 2010 ducati sport classic 1000 be too much bike to learn to ride on?

i’m looking to get a bike to learn on. i’ve seen recommendations to start somewhere between 250-600cc. but was wondering because of the style bike it would be different. i’m thinking of just going for a used 250 just for the lay down possibilities. the thing is, i’m 5’10′ and 180lbs and just wondering how quickly i will out grow the 250!?

It never ceases to amaze me to see how people would rather chastise the askers of misplaced questions than pass up the opportunity to insult someone by simply ignoring the question.

Seeing how I ride both bicycles and motorcycles, I feel uniquely qualified to give you an opinion ~ without the insults…

There’s a big difference between riding a 1000cc cruiser, and a 1000cc sport bike. Although both are powerful, the sport bike will rev and respond so quickly that you can go from zero to over your head in less than a second. When you’re learning to ride, you need to begin on a bike that is more forgiving. The downside is that it doesn’t take that long to get a pretty good feel for things, and if you’re on a small bike when that happens ~ you’ll wish you had something bigger.

My advice is to err on the side of caution. It’s better to hone your skills for a few years on a bike with less horse power, than it is to go big right off the bat and to get yourself crippled or killed.
