How to re-install spring loaded hinge motor scooter seat?

More info about my original question. After the removal of the seat with the hinge attached to the seat, I can’t reposition a spring-loaded hinge to the proper position for the re-installation. Is there a technique to do that? .It looks to me the hinge has to be swung about 180 degrees. But how do I keep it in place under the heavy tension?

If the hinge is in the front I always bolt it to body first and have someone hold up the seat while I bolt that end on. The pivot roll would be to the inside.
