CUBE Fritzz Mountain Bike 2011 Range Reviewed
The CUBE Fritzz 2011 models are a more robust, beefed-up Stereo and is Cube’s all mountain mountain bikes. Their boast 160mm travel and so may feel slightly heavier on the climbs but will increase the grin factor five-fold on the descents. Those who were at the Mega this year would have seen a few Fritzz’s- possibly the perfect Mega Avalanche bike? Mega bikes are everywhere now. The Fritzz is available in two models for 2011 (aluminium only).
There is lots of hydroforming going on, which combined with triple butting or even quadruple butted tubing (aluminum tubes are reinforced where required and reduced where possible) the frame weight is kept at very reasonable 2.7 kg (6 lbs) And thanks to the great spec (for not much of your money:) the complete builds at only 13.4kg (29lbs) for the SL model and 14.2kg (31lbs) for the Pro.
The prize, as we’re used from CUBE now, is offer great value for money. The CUBE Fritzz SL comes at £3049 and for this you get FOX Talas RC2 (120-160mm) forx matched with the RP23 boost valve rear shock, full Shimano XT 30-speed drivetrain, Formula The ONE brakes, Syntace/Fizi:k/FSA finnishing kit topped with the mighty Easton Haven wheelset and Schwalbe rubber – whow!
The slightly more modestly kited CUBE Fritzz Pro model is coming at fantastic £2449. The specification include FOX Talas RC2 (120-160mm) forx matched with FOX RP23 Boost Valve rear shock, Shimano Slx 30 speed drivetrain, Formula RX stoppers, Syntace/Fizi:k/FSA finnishing kit and Sun Ringle hoops.
So even if you’re not planing doing the Mega, the Fritzz is the ideal weapon of choice for these liking the black coloured routes in the UK trail centers. With Cube’s Dual Trail Control System’ Rear Suspension set-up the Fritzz really excels on climbs – even if you put the power down for the steepest up, the rear end just doesn’t move, but still allow enough traction. And on the way down? One big grin, some compare it to the stability of a DH bike.
One thing I would certainly recommend to purchase with these bikes is the ‘Cube DTC Carbon muddy board for Fritzz’ which is little mudguard made of carbon specially design to fit neatly between your Fritzzes rear wheel and the rear shock. It will cost you £34.99 extra on top off the bike, but especially for UK’s always wet ridding most essential protection for you rear shock. It is bit of a ‘swizz’ from the manufactures side, you’re be thinking, but considering the great value for money you getting with Cube thirty-five bugs won’t break the bank.
CUBE Technologies used for Fritzz 2011 models:
Advanced Hydroforming:
For the first time in 2011 we are also manufacturing top tubes and seat tubes of the new AMS ALU models using this hydroforming process, which has proved its worth. In conventional hydroforming processes this custom form and technical advantages cannot be achieved. As this manufacturing method reduces the number of welds, the weight is reduced with a simultaneous increase in stability.
Wet Paint Surface:
On polished and brushed aluminium and all HPC frames the logos and graphics are applied in multi-layer wet paint. We use this surface treatment technology mainly to save weight.
Dual Trail Control:
Dual Trail Control is the four-pivot suspension technology developed and improved by CUBE, which ensures a completely neutral behavior on the rear triangle when pedaling over any terrain.
Fox DTC Customized Setup:
Elaborative developed kinematics are only able to function correctly if the associated suspension shocks is properly tuned to it. Connected with the new Fox Float RP23 Boost Valve shock and the DHX RC4 shock, we could achieve the best optimized performance.
X12:
In this system, a cone is used to form a play-free connection. It is only necessary to tighten the axle from one side. The main advantages of the Syntace system are: quick and simple changing of the wheel, a stabilised position of the brake disc, a higher stiffness of the rear drive train and a lighter weight compared to a conventional thru axle. The advantages of the Syntace through-axle system are: easier fitting and removal of the rear axle, stable brake disc position (thus less sliding) and improved rear assembly rigidity values. Hence the X12 weighs less than conventional through-axle systems.
FSP 4Link:
The requirement for a continuously active and fully usable travel: The rear triangle is not affected by pedalling or especially braking forces. Regardless of the fact that a variety of other possibilities exists, we employ a four pivot chain stay construction. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chain stay; this ensures that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. Thereby via the appropriate positioning of the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes in terms of uphill as well as downhill abilities.
HPA – High Performance Aluminium:
For high end, we use High Performance 7005 aluminium alloy which has a very low density combined with high strength due to the special alloy and the hardening heat treatment. By triple butting or even quadruple butted tubing, aluminium tubes are reinforced where required and reduced where possible. In addition we use Special tube shapes, manufactured with Hydroform technology to better cope with the directional forces. The low density and high strength as well as the butting and the Hydroform technology enable us to make high performance frames with an ultimate level of stiffness.
3D Box:
To cope with bending and torsional forces in the Bottom Bracket area, we have developed a 3D-box for our four-pivot Dual Trail Control layout. It is placed between the rear shock struts. It gives a very wide support for the sealed encapsulated industrial bearings of the bottom bracket resulting in a clearly improved lateral stiffness, a better response, and a better power transfer between crankset and the rear wheel. At the same time, the 3D-box carries the front derailleur as well as the fixing point for the shock.
