CUBE’s Freeride Machines For 2011 – Hanzz Range
An addition to the cube range for the 2011 season sees the new ‘Hanzz’. This is Cube’s first Freeride bike and, like the Fritzz, is also available in two models. The Hanzz offers 190mm rear wheel travel and this is matched up front by Fox’s new 180mm single crown fork. It is good to see Cube stepping on to this freeride/mini-DH scene.
Both models in question are using the same frameset chasis – the FSP 4 Link which means that the rear triangle is not affected by pedaling or under braking. In principle what we have here is four pivot chain stay construction. One of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chain stay which ensures when you brake this doesn’t have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. Cube claim you should be able ride these up the hill as well, but if you looking for well compromised ‘heavy hitting downhill/alpine goat uphill machine’ rather check the Fritzz range, the Hanzz definitely excels on the downhill sections.
Both options are equipped with custom tuned FOX suspension and the rear wheel is hold in with the new industry standard the Syntace X12, understand 142 mm dropouts merging Light Weight and rigidity. The frames are hydroformed and triple butted. High quality finish is archived thru multi layered powder coating and stove-enameled finnish guarantees really tough scratch-proof frame.
The prize for both models is very competitive too, especially for the Pro model. The CUBE Hanzz SL will cost you £3299 for which you get top notch FOX Floats RC2 + DHX RC4, Shimano Saint drive train and stoppers and ultra tough Sun Ringle wheelset – to pin point the most important highlights.
The CUBE Hanzz Pro costs only £2299 and you are still getting FOX suspension (Vanilla R + Vanilla RC), Formula The One brakes! and Sun Ringle rims. Check the detailed spec below for more.
Both, SL as well as Pro model, come in three sizes – Small (16”), Medium (18”) and Large (20”) and both weigh 16.5kg (36lbs) in the medium size frame (minus pedals).
So if you’re looking for your heavy hitting but not heavy free-ride machine CUBE is certainly hot candidate. Personally would recommend this bike to aspiring younger DH racers, especially the juvenile/youth category rider will happily manage all UK course in saddle one of these bad boys – no problem.

Advanced Hydroforming:
For the first time in 2011 we are also manufacturing top tubes and seat tubes of the new AMS ALU models using this hydroforming process, which has proved its worth. In conventional hydroforming processes this custom form and technical advantages cannot be achieved. As this manufacturing method reduces the number of welds, the weight is reduced with a simultaneous increase in stability.
X12:
In this system, a cone is used to form a play-free connection. It is only necessary to tighten the axle from one side. The main advantages of the Syntace system are: quick and simple changing of the wheel, a stabilised position of the brake disc, a higher stiffness of the rear drive train and a lighter weight compared to a conventional thru axle. The advantages of the Syntace through-axle system are: easier fitting and removal of the rear axle, stable brake disc position (thus less sliding) and improved rear assembly rigidity values. Hence the X12 weighs less than conventional through-axle systems.
FSP 4Link:
The requirement for a continuously active and fully usable travel: The rear triangle is not affected by pedalling or especially braking forces. Regardless of the fact that a variety of other possibilities exists, we employ a four pivot chain stay construction. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chain stay; this ensures that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. Thereby via the appropriate positioning of the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes in terms of uphill as well as downhill abilities.
Fox DTC Customized Setup:
Elaborative developed kinematics are only able to function correctly if the associated suspension shocks is properly tuned to it. Connected with the new Fox Float RP23 Boost Valve shock and the DHX RC4 shock, we could achieve the best optimized performance.
Powder Coating:
For our powder coated frames, we apply synthetic paint powder in multiple thin layers. Together with the graphics, these are stove-enameled. With this technology, we can implement the characteristic and extraordinary multiple colour designs rendering our frames. Their knock and scratchproof finish will last a lifetime.
