Can you clean a CPU with acetone?
I have a Pentium Dual Core E6700 but the stock heat sink is rubbish. I ordered one and it will come tomorrow, but how can I get the old tthermal compound paste off of it? I read and saw that acetone may be good, but is it? I don’t want to destroy my CPU.
I’ve always used a q-tip or soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol to clean the stock thermal paste off. If you find that some of the paste is stuck on and wont come off, use a little bit more force and some more alcohol. I’ve never tried Acetone, i’m sure it would work just the same but it’s more harmful to your skin and could damage other things if accidentally spilled.
