Does the Kitchenaid Food Processor deliver in the important area of performance or is it just a pretty face? Well, a look at what it has to offer and what buyers have had to say about it confirms that it is held ion high regard. Customer reviews seem universally in favour.
What does the package consist of?
First of all, a very powerful 650W motor, capable of handling tough ingredients such as ginger, lemon grass or hard cheese. Because it’s a direct-drive unit, it can adjust its own speed depending on the load. Some users have questioned why it has no manual speed control. The answer is that it’s not needed – the motor handles this automatically. There is a pulse button.
One thing that is repeatedly stressed is how quiet it is.
It’s also very solidly built, in die-cast metal. The resulting weight of 13.3kg means that you will not want to be lifting it in and out of a cupboard – you’ll need a permanent place on the worktop. The advantage of course is durability and smoothness of operation.
The Kitchenaid Artisan Food Processor also has the advantage of great flexibility because of the large range of bowls and tools supplied.
There are three bowls. Firstly a large 2.8 l Working Bowl which is used with the general-purpose blades and beaters. Secondly a 2.4 litre Chefs Bowl which fits inside the large bowl and is used with the slicing and shredding discs while keeping the large bowl clean. Thirdly a 950 ml Mini Bowl with its own mini blade for small-scale use.
There’s a cleverly designed dual tube which allows various sized pieces to be fed into the processor.
The general-purpose stainless blade is razor sharp. Also supplied is a dough blade for breadmaking, an egg-beater and a citrus press. A thoughtful addition is a slimline accessory box to keep all the bits and pieces together. All accessories and bowls will go into the dishwasher.
Have there been any negative comments? A minor complaint is that fine flour tends to leak out past the cover at times. But I suspect that it’s a common problem, as no processor lid is that close-fitting. Others have reported problems with liquids such as soup leaking past the blade. However no processor is designed to handle large volumes of liquid and in any case there’s a level indicator on the bowl.
There’s a 10 year guarantee on the motor and 3 years on the rest. This speaks volumes for the confidence that Kitchenaid have in their product.
The Kitchenaid Food Processor is not cheap – you can buy less expensive processors – but then it has a lot going for it. It’s powerful, flexible and will handle any job you care to give it. And it comes in all of Kitchenaid’s fantastic colours. Good choice.
