What street bicycle should i get?
I’m looking to buy a street bicycle. I am not competing, this is just for fun. But, i am looking to ride long distances (say 50-60 miles in a day). What is a good bike for this? What’s the difference between a high end bike and just a basic street bike? Is the high end bike capable of more intense riding, or is it just an advantage for races? Thanks!
I guess Dekadance (answer above) doesn’t consider 50 to 60 miles a day to be a “serious cyclist”. At 50 – 60 miles a day, a discount store bike will fall apart quickly. You said it yourself. A “high end bike capable of more intense riding”. Yes it is. Mountain bikes, hybrids & comfort bikes are not racing bikes. Yet, the better bikes will still come with better components. It’s not a trick or a joke or a way to make the customer just spend more. It’s a way to build MORE customers. Word of mouth is still the best advertisement. And I’m telling you to INVEST the extra bucks in a quality bike. I’m a happy camper with a bike worth about $500.
A quality bike will last a lifetime, if taken care of properly. Discount store bikes are called throw away bikes or disposable bikes, just like a disposable lighter. Use ‘em for a while & throw them away!
