Cutting roses, leaving black ends on remaining stems, what to do ?
When I cut my roses for a bouquet, the ends of the stem that remain on the rose bush turns black ??? Is it because my cutting shears are carrying diseases, should I sterilize them. or what can I do ???
Are you cutting all the way back to a leaf node? Sometimes if the stem is too long it will die back like this, but if you cut close to a leaf, at an angle, that should help. Also make sure you’re using good sharp pruners, to make sure the ends of the canes aren’t getting crushed when you cut. Sterilizing wouldn’t hurt either but I doubt that’s the reason. Good luck!
