The Swiss Army Knife Goes To Camp
When a family sets out to camp, there are certain essential that should make the trip. What is used at camp are the same things used at home. Food, shelter, water, fire, illumination, and clothing are those basics. Taking a fishing pole, black Swiss Army knife and bold attitude help, too. At night, things crawl about and bump around, with little light.
Shelter protects campers from the elements. A tent is the most basic form of shelter on a campground, outside of sleeping on dirt. Tents should be chosen according to how many people and how much equipment will be making the trip. Tents are usually made for sleeping in multiples of two.
The best friend at camp is fire. Campers should know how to start one, but if no one can, the right materials to start a fire should be packed. Fires warm camps and food can be cooked over the flame. Light also comes from fire, but to be safe, lanterns and flashlights need to be incorporated.
Ensure all bases are covered with clothing. Hats to protect against cold and sun, long pants, and short pants be included. Tank tops, hiking boots and Long Sleeve shirts are also needed. If swimming at a nearby lake or creek is part of the camping trip, swimsuits should be integrated into clothing choices.
Bug spray and sunscreen are indispensable. Spray any clothes with bug spray, along with bare skin. While wearing long pants, duct taping the pants inside of hiking boots is recommended to protect against tick bites and the roaming snake or two.
For those that have only imagined what it’s like to camp, food is often thought of in terms of chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows. Though this food is enjoyable, it does no good without the proper meal in which to balance. A cooler can come packed with excellent selections such as drinks, breads, raisins, cheese, and cold cuts. Needed protein can be supplied with canned beans chili, soup, and canned meats. Though not essential, freeze dried foods come in handy on a camping trip. Make camp food fascinating and imaginative.
That Swiss Army knife will come in handy for chopping, the scissors are good for opening packages. The Swiss Army knife should also have a can opener, for the canned goods brought with the rest of the food. It can also be used to gut any fish, if caught while on the trip.
Whether done by one person or a family, camping is an adventure. As long as preparations are made, the adventure should start.
