The Best Safety Features In A Sporty Package : The 2011 Volvo S60
Volvo’s new 2011 S60 is a gorgeous, sporty coupe with elegant smooth lines. It’s more athletic, noticeable and has more character than any previous Volvo model. The exterior is stylish and boasts a C-pillar that expands all the way to the anterior lamps. This upscale car offers High Performance and luxurious amenities and will compete directly with entry-level BMW and Mercedes Benz models. The S60 was created to be the most innovative and dynamic Volvo ever created and offers two chassis settings.
The S60 is propelled by a 6 Cylinder engine with 300 HP and 325 pound feet of torque. A six speed automatic transmission is in place. The engine will be the most powerful that Volvo has ever created. Acceleration is a breeze with this car and it goes from 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. The ride is smooth due to the Dynamic Suspension and the cabin is super quiet. Gas mileage is at 17 mpg in the city and 26mph on the freeway. The interior is crafted out of the finest materials and offers an abundance of space. The front seats are designed to give comfortable lumbar support. There is a display center on the center stack and two dials in the instrument center. Trunk capacity is at 12 cubic feet and the rear seats fold down for additional cargo space.
Volvo is well known for its safe vehicles and the S60 is no exception. World class safety features are available such as a Side Impact Protection System, the strong side structure of the vehicle helps to withstand a severe side impact. Care for pedestrian safety was engineered into the structure of the car; the front is smooth clean lines and a low engine position to help minimize the impact with pedestrians and cyclists if an accident were to occur. The steering wheel is collapsible in case of an accident in order to prevent bodily harm to the driver. The anti-submarining feature prevents passengers from sliding under their seatbelts on impact. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver if the car is swerving out of the driving lane and Driver Alert Control helps to prevent collisions due to driver fatigue. This vehicle will feature Volvo’s groundbreaking Collision Warning system with Full Auto brake which actually detects pedestrians and applies the brakes when there is an imminent collision, even if the driver fails to brake on time.
In regards to options, there is a portable touch screen navigation system available which fits into the docking unit. Certain graphics such as buildings are displayed in 3D. There is also a Rear Seat Entertainment System available with dual DVD players. This system consists of two LCD monitors and DVD players installed right into the headrest.
If you’re in the market for an entry level luxury sedan then the S60 would be the ideal choice. This car offers plenty of power in a smooth package and at a base price of around $38k it’s a great deal for a luxury car with new modern look and all of the latest safety technologies that Volvo is so known for.
