The Experience of Scuba Diving Oahu
Scuba diving Oahu is your gateway to a magical underwater world. Few other water sports allow a person to actually become part of the ocean life.
Oahu is the most populated Hawaain island and it also has the largest number of dive training companies, most companies are located in Honolulu and offer transportation to and from Waikiki hotels. Some of these diving schools will cater to the advanced diver while others specialize in beginner and intermediate and all of the schools offer various levels of courses. Almost all the local dive companies offer certification courses, as well as introductory scuba dives for those who’ve never tried it before. Experience is not necessary only the inclination.
Taking scuba lessons are worthwhile and most instructors are ready to teach, guide or answer any of your questions before you scuba dive in Hawaii . They will take you to any diving spot you want in Oahu and there are plenty. Together with your instructor, you’ll swim along magnificent coral reefs and see many tropical fish. You’ll stay in shallow water all the time. From diving the shallow reefs with tropical fish and sea turtles to exploring ship wrecks, Oahu is the diving haven for professional divers as well as the novice.
Shark Cove, a natural coral reef located on the north shore is the home of a abundant assortment of sea life which will be seen in the natural habitat. The reef can only be accessed during calm seas. Inside the bay is well-protected from big waves by offshore reefs and by lava peninsulas on the both sides, making this a superb swimming beach for families with small children. It is also a good place to watch whales, during the whale season.The majestic fish and colorful reefs native to the Hawaiian islands will leave you in awe. If you decide to go diving a Sharks Cove, be careful of the sharp rocks whe going in.
Diving the sheltered seas and colorful reefs of Hanauma Bay attracts many visitors and locals alike. This bay has over 500 different types of tropical fish, 40 to 50 percent which are natural to Hawaii. The Mahi Waianae ,a 165-foot minesweeper, was sunk in 1982 in the waters just south of Waianae on Oahu’s leeward coast to create an artificial reef. It’s intact and penetrable, but you’ll need a boat to access it.
Oahu contains just about anything that a scuba diver can imagine including sea turtles, hundreds of tropical fish, sharks, and frog fish. Plane Corsair, the only naturally sunk wreck, at the east side of the Island. In that time 3 ghost nets have been removed from Oahu reefs. A total length of 500+ feet recovered in depths up to 200 feet. Due to its distance, the offshore coral reefs remain the most flourishing in the islands, and the variety of tropical fish, sharks and even the occational sea turtles will give the diver the experice of a lifetime . The beach gets very crowded during the tourist peak season, and can almost be unpleasant.
