What kind of wood would be good to use to make a handlebar stand for Dance Dance Revolution pad?
I want to make a handlebar stand for my DDR pad just something to keep the bar up. What I would be doing is placing the stand behind me up against the back of the pad like it was there the whole time.

believe it or not thats all wood covered in a thin layer of sheet metal so im not crazy asking for a wood recommendation.
What happened to mine you may ask. Mine never had one because it looks like this

So basically I’m just going to be making the part thats sorta shaped like this _/.
So whats a good type of wood to use. No I dont know what type of wood the pads are made out of otherwise I wouldn’t be asking LOL.
It appears to be used for support …to hang onto. So if I were making this support, I would want something functional and strong. Oak is nice but you would need something with at least a one inch diameter. 1 inch oak would be really costly.
So I would prolly go to the hardware store and buy some closet pole material which is usually 1-1/2 inch in diameter and made of fir.
Sand it real smooth to avoid splinters and seal it with Varathane.
If you wanted it to look like the picture, you can find a friendly electrican who can bend a 1-inch thinwall (EMT) conduit for you into the same rounded/squared ‘U’ shape that is in the picture.
