How do I get my Kurt Kinetic Road Machine to stop squeaking?
I have a Kurt Kinetic road machine trainer which squeaks when I ride, especially when I ride standing or pedal fast. My friend has the exact same model and his doesn’t squeak at all.
Has anyone else had this problem with this model or a similar one, and how do you fix it?
Please answer ONLY if you have experience with this issue (no guesses).
The problem is vibration and poor fit. The threaded rods that hold your wheel in place fit inside of threaded holes on the trainer. Without getting too complicated your best bet is lube up those threads with some heavy heavy grease. Next you have to really tighten the bike into the trainer well. If that doesn’t solve the problem then the problem can’t be fixed easily. You can also try threading compounds like loctite but beyond that the best fix is a new trainer. This is the nature of machinery and moving parts.
Why your trainer squeekes and his dosent? He has stronger hands maybe. Have him hook up your bike and see. Are you bigger? Is your trainer style smooth or do you sway a little? Switch trainers and experiment around but I think you’ll find that poor fit tolerances are the problem.
BTW, the best trainer without doubt is the Kreitler headwind trainer. Texas A&M University did a study of trainers and found that without the convection cooling of wind – either by real riding or using a fan system, performance is dramatically reduced by heat exhaustion within 20 min. Riders on the Kreitler trainers however were able to sustain higher output for much longer.
