Just got a new Freeride/downhiller mountain bike.. what now?
Well I just got my FIRST mtb, a Mongoose Pinnr Foreman(about a $4000 freerider/downhill mtb) and its 43 pounds. I saw it, loved it and got it for a steal at $600 brand new.
I am going to be doing some down hilling but im a noob and want to start out small.
What are the basics I should get? Shin guards, elbow guards? Should I get a full helmet(like a dirtbike bmx helmet) or a normal helmet?
I already have a pump, plan to grab some tubes and a tire wedge. What else should I get?

i love the mongoose bikes. I got a 2010 bootr team at the beginning of the summer and its been awesome good choice. i would suggest getting a good set of 5.10 freerider shoes for the best contact between the pedals and your feet. 661 comp knee and Elbow Pads would be more than sufficient, especially for a beginner. depending on how hard you ride (or crash) a pressure suit may be necessary. full face helmets are indeed the way to go for dh/fr. it is not often you fall and only hit the top of your head. it is important to protect the jaw and cheeks incase you smash your head into the bars after a hard drop. Also some quality gloves like the TLD GP’s or dakine covert and possibly a riding pack for water and tools
