What would you recommend as a first trials,jump, freestyle 26″ bike.Which brand and model?
As in twoo weeks time I’ll move quite close to my job, I’ve decided to start cycling to work.The thing is that couple of years ago when I was a kid I had a bike I liked to try trials kind of stuff,wheelies,jumping over the benches…But it was an old steel frame mtb.So now When I’m older , but still with that passion I would like to buy one of them bikes (not the top shelf one) rather the medium or lover , but still lightweight,with that sexy look , and capable of taking all that abuse:) Thanx for any help.
There’s about a zillion choices for a mid-range hardtail frame. As long as it has a 13″ – 15″ sized seat post it will be ideal for trials & freeride, for commuting – just put the saddle up.
You don’t necessarily have to pay lots for a well known brand in order to get a good frame, I would personally go for a steel frame as it will last you longer & threads won’t wear out e.t.c.
Some relatively cheap and sexy looking frames are: 243Racing SL, DMR Trailstar, also, Planet-X and Club Roost frames look ok and come with some great paint jobs. – With steel frames, don’t buy anything that looks overbuilt or claims to be ‘bomb-proof’, as steel is plenty strong enough without.
As for alloy frames, try GT Hans Rey or Brian Lopes frames or the Cannondale Chase. The Chase looks sweet as, and GT frames are very stiff and light.
As for buying a Complete Bike, Kona make very good bikes for the kind of riding you have in mind.
