Best size road tire for my MTB?
Hello:
I am a beginning cyclist and I am very confused about tire sizes. I am 5’10 and a big girl. I would like to buy road tires for my MTB that has 26″ rims (I think) and would like to know what size road tires I should get. Someone suggested 700c…is that right? I’m concerned that the tires either won’t fit or won’t be able to support my weight. Suggestions??
Thank you for the great answers!! So, I understand that I will need 26″ tires that are slick. The part that I’m wondering about now is the width (?)….I’m guessing that the ” x 1.25″ part is the width of the tire. I’m also getting the impression that the wider the better to carry my weight…is that right? If so, what would be the widest width I could go without being TOO wide for my rims? (I am a BIG woman. lol)
You need 26 inch tires period. You can replace the knobby tires with tires that are used on cruisers (universal tread) or you can get slicks that are smooth. You can also buy high pressure road tires that are 1.5 inches wide, they will be the most efficient.
