How critical a component is a brake-rotor backing-plate ?
The left, rear, brake-rotor backing-plate has disintegrated due to rusting. The one piece OEM replacement, requires removal of the hub/bearing assembly, a task I would like to avoid. I am considering not replacing it, if a split plate is not available for this vehicle, a 2001 Nissan Sentra.
all it does is keep excess dirt and crap off the rotor.
