Physics Help~~ SPRING QUESTION~?
The Joker stood on a platform holding a large carton of fish heads. His mass is 60 kg and the mass of the fish heads and carton is 12 kg. 12 metres below him is a small, light pad supported by a long, ideal vertical compression spring. He has already discovered that if he slowly lowered himself onto this pad, the spring would support him and the carton in equilibrium when it had compressed 12 m. However, he now wishes to reach a higher platform where Batman is waiting for him. He does this by stepping from the lower platform, while holding the fish heads, and falling until he strikes the pad. At the instant the spring is fully compressed ,he throws the carton of fish heads overboard and he is shot back upwards. What is
the maximum additional height he would gain above his original starting position.

Thus let
Pe1- potential energy of Joker plus box
Pe1= (m+m1)gh1 where
m – mass of the Joker
m1 – mass of th ebox
g – acceleration due to gravity
h1 – height between the point he jumped to the platform.
the Pe1 energy is observed by the string an released at a minimum point. At this point Jokes lets the box go and all the energy transformed in propelling the Joker up.
Pe2- potential energy of Joker (or at the height he can archive by dropping the box)

Now we can write an energy conservation equation
0= Pe1- Pe2
0= (m1 +m)g h1 – mgh2
then
h2= (m1 +m)h1/m
h2= (60 + 12) x12/60=
h2=14.4 m
