Most restaurants and stores use credit card equipment today because of the wide use of credit and debit cards. It can get confusing with all the selection out there, therefore if you’re in the market to buy some equipment, here are some simple tips to follow:
1. Ownership Vs Leasing
Credit card machines are a good investment for your business and costs range from $100 to $1000. There are leases avaiable but it may cost your business more overall rather than purchasing a machine outright.
2. Backup POS Equipment
Always buy a back-up battery when purchasing a credit card machine. This will ensure you can still serve your customers and process their purchases if and when a power outage occurs.
3. Technology
You’ve got your new credit card machine now so you can process customers’ credit and debit card payments but it won’t be fast and it won’t be convenient if the modem isn’t fast enough to transmit data. This is a must when making your purchase and your customer will appreciate you for it.
4. Visa & Mastercard Standards
Smart cards have microchips in them instead of a magnetic strip. They include debit, credit and other information in the card. Smart cards are the way of the future in credit cards and are becoming very popular.
5. Back-up software
When choosing a credit card machine, choose one with flash memory to store the operating software. This allows software downloads and installation in a convenient way and also increases the life of the equipment.
6. It’s Not all About the Credit Cards – Debit too!
Some people prefer to pay by debit instead of credit. For this reason, you will need to buy a machine that either has a built in KEY pinpad or one that has a separate PIN pad.
7. Knuckle Busters
Another great idea is to purchase an Imprinter for those times when you have to work on the road or at a show or event. At the store, if the power of telephone service fails, you will always be ready to handle a transaction and not lose business.
