Have a 1997 Dodge 1500 2wd pickup. Want to pull rear brake drums. To check shoes?
Shoes are probably worn into drum & drum won’t pull. Where it appears you should be able to adjust shoes has a metal which will break off into drum if I try to adjust brakes. Is there a procedure for this? & does adjuster turn upward or downward to back brakes off to remove drum?
There is indeed a trick to it. You have to punch out both holes in the backing plate. Insert a thin screwdriver through one hole to hold the self adjuster lever off the adjusting wheel. Put the brake adjuster tool through the other hole and rotate the adjuster wheel downward.
