slightly warped chain line?
just installed brand new raceface chainrings torqued to specs at 7ft/lbs and when looking at them from above when riding they are slightly warped.cannot decide whether to return them.Both (large and middle) chainrings have same amount of warp, I have a race face x-type evolve xc crank with about 10k on it an x type Bottom Bracket, I would hate to blame race face for this problem as it may be the crank arms are bent…..how likely is that? or I need to face and chase the bottom bracket and install a new BB, main question here is should I return the chainrings? R+R the bottom bracket, live with it or buy a new crank.
yep, applied equal torque gradually on opposite bolts, looks more and more likely the crank arms are slightly bent….pretty good product with all the miles on it I guess.just annoying to look down and see the crooked driveline, makes me feel slower……psyche!
With 10k on a crankset its more likely than not to be the case. I often see old cranks that over time have slightly warped causing the chainrings to appear bent.
Take your cranks off,lay them on a desk and compare the space between the middle of the crank and the desk. This should give you an accurate look at the problem
