Are tiger barbs good for cycling tanks?
If not, in your opinion, which fish is best for it?
I’m willing to spend 20-25 dollars on the cycling fish.
For a 55 gallon.
I used long finned red minor tetras for all my other tanks but I’m tired of these fish.
Wrong section; perfectly valid question.
I like gymnocorymbus ternetzi (Black Widow tetra) for cycling the fish tank. They’re dirt cheap fish and they can swim in an unflushed toilet — they don’t die on you easily.
Cycling a tank: the process of turning a sterile fishtank (new from the factory, filled with fish-killing chlorinated tapwater) into a thriving, self-sustaining biological engine that automatically attacks fish waste and excretions and uneaten food — into something harmless to fish.
As it turns out, you need live fish (or some other waterborne creature that excretes waste) in the tank to cycle it.
Fish on a bicycle is a bit rare, though.
