Review Of The Giro Saros – Stylish General Purpose Cycling Helmet
The Giro Saros incorporates advanced road-cycling technology into a helmet that every leisure cyclist will be able to enjoy. It’s very affordable. At a price which depends to an extent on size, it’s at a level that almost anyone can appreciate.
Those who have no doubt as to the value of cycling helmets – and I have to say that I’m one – would probably say that price really shouldn’t come into the calculation, but the fact remains that price is an important factor for most. However, considering the technology that’s gone into this helmet, the price does not look unreasonable at all.
The styling is good too. It’s a fact that many leisure cyclists would find the styling of an out-and-out road helmet far too agressive and unsuitable. The Saros will look at home around town as well as out on the open road.
The construction uses modern in-mould techniques – basically the outer shell is bonded to the expanded polystyrene body of the helmet in a single process. Extra reinforcement is built into the area around the vents and ribs, increasing the impact resistance.
Consequently, large vents and internal ventilation channels can be designed in, maximising the cooling airflow. So it is no surprise that the comfort, Light Weight and efficient cooling are often commented on by users of the Saros.
A minor criticism made by some is that there is no netting fitted to the front vents, so occasionally insects can find their way into the helmet. So beware wasps!
The Saros is available in 3 sizes – . Fine adjustment is by use of the adhesive pads supplied, and finally with Giro’s RocLoc system. This is a way of tightening the internal straps with a dial fitted to the rear of the helmet. So you can put on a hat in cold weather without having to take out and put back in the pads.
The helmet comes in a wide range of colourways, so you can even find one to match your bike if you want!
The Giro Saros is in accordance with CE EN1078 standards, so you can rest assured of the best protection.
The design of the Saros ensures that it will suit the needs of a wide range of cyclists. So for fast commuting or fun at the weekends, this helmet seems to tick all the boxes.
