What’s you top 5 road racing cyclists of all time?
Oneel, sir i believe your answer does not get any better, you are obviously the favorite to get best answer already:)
The only thing someone could change is to rank Lance Armstrong at #2 but still it can be considered a debate if you take account the whole career of the top cyclists and not just tour de france!
By any means,a great answer sir!
1. Eddy Merckx—5 Tour victories, 5 Giro victories, 1 Vuelta victory. estimated 200 race wins. Possibly the best all around racer in history.
2. Fausto Coppi—2 Tour victories, 5 Giro victories. Very strong One-Day racer. Had one of Cycling’s earliest rivalries with Gino Bartali. Coppi revolutionized cycling in the Post-War era.
3. Lance Armstrong—7 Tour victories. Pretty good success in the classics. Outside of Chris Boardman and Miguel Indurain, may be one of the best time trialers in history.
4. Jacques Anquetil—5 Tour victories, 2 Giros, 1 Vuelta. Held the yellow jersey for every stage of the 1961 Tour. First 5 time winner. Hour record holder. Absolutely dominant.
5. Johan Museeuw/Miguel Indurain—Can’t decide between the two. Museeuw was the dominant rider in the 90′s in classic races. Induriain was one of the most dominating riders the Tour has ever seen!
