I have a 1994 gmc 4×4. How can 4×4 not lock in?
was playing in snow last night and shifted from 4 high to 4 low and would not engage front wheels. It has a direct shifter to transfer case and it gears right but light dont come on floor display. Is it a relay that locks front hubs?
well just because the light didn’t come on doesn’t mean that it didn’t lock the front axle. it could be the bulb is blown on the diplay. but just in case the front axle on chevrolet use’s a vacum system to lock the front differential most likely the vacuum line on the actuator is leaking if you lay under the truck you will see a cable that runs into the front diff it will come from the passenger side you will have to follow that cable to find your actuator it is usually on the passenger fender either up above the battery or under it. check the vacuum connection i just had to myself about 1 month ago. if it is connected good i would look to see of the hose has a hole in it but the easiest way to check if it has locked is to have a friend watch to see of the front tires spin. get in some snow or sloppy mud and let her rip. could also be the switch on the differntial shifter if you remove the the dust boot on your shifter you will see a little plastic switch that tell the control system to engage and disengage the actuator.
