All You Wanted To Know About The SIDI Genius 6.6 Carbon
Designed for the high-performance, high-mileage cyclist the Sidi Genius 6.6 Carbon is a serious road bike shoe for a serious road bike rider. They don’t call it the Genius by mistake, this shoe will fit you so well you’ll understand where the name comes from. The carbon sole allows for maximum power transfer with minimal weight, this results in the ideal sole for extensive road cycling. Unlike with your broke neighbors there is no power stealing going on here. All in all the Sidi Genius 6.6 is a smart buy that may even make you a smarter cyclist.
Italy gives us many incredible luxury goods; Lamborghini, Valentino, and of course, SIDI. While exotic sports cars might be out of reach for most of us, exquisite cycling shoes are something you’ll appreciate every time you ride. The Genius 6.6 Carbon shoes are like a Ferrari 575M compared to the Ergo 2′s Enzo; they both go over 350 KPH, do you really need to look like a pro, or will you settle for pro-level equipment? The Genius 6.6 Carbon has many features that are identical to the Ergo 2 shoes, but cost a little less and actually shed 44 grams per pair.
Let’s start with the most obvious. The luxurious Lorica upper makes the 6.6′s feel like your favorite pair of broken-in, fuzzy bunny slippers as soon as you put them on. To keep your feet cool, critically placed mesh inserts allow airflow into the shoe. Aside from the new Full- Carbon sole, the feature that impresses us the most with the 2009 SIDI’s is the new Ultra SL buckle. It retains the positive ratcheting security of the old version, so you will still enjoy on-the- bike adjustments and slip-proof fit. What takes the Ultra SL buckle to the next level is its ability to ratchet both ways at the touch of a lever, so you can micro-adjust your fit tighter or looser while in the saddle. Two more High Security Velcro instep straps stay where you put them to hold your foot solidly. The original version of SIDI’s Heel Security System prevents heel lift by locking your achilles in place.
On the bottom of the Sidi Genius 6.6 Carbon shoe you’ll find the same Full-Carbon sole that the Ergo 2 is built on. The Full-Carbon sole with it’s shock- absorbing cork insert shaves 65 grams per pair off the old High-Tech Carbon sole, and provides you with a platform that is at once more efficient and ergonomically safer. Overall stiffness is increased, but the sole is thinner, especially in the toe, which allows a minimal amount of flex for adequate blood- circulation. The increased rigidity and thinner profile both help you squeeze even more power out of your pedals.
