The Basics Of Paintball
Interested in starting to play paintball? If you are interested in trying out paintball, but don’t want to commit to purchasing a marker yet, either borrow one from a friend or check your local paintball field(s). Plenty of paintball fields offer markers for rent, they usually sell paintballs as well. If you have already purchased your own paintball marker your first tasks are to fill the air tank(s) and purchase paintballs. 500 rounds should be sufficient for your first time playing. You have bought (or rented) your paintball marker, a supply of paintballs, and your protective mask. Are you ready to head out the door? Not quite.
What other equipment will you need to bring to a game of paintball? First bring a supply of water, some rags or old towels, and a spray bottle (fill with plain water). At the end of a game if you have been hit, you will need to clean off your goggles or marker. If your goggles are hit, don’t try to immediately wipe off the paint. The paint is sticky and will smear everywhere. The paint also tends to attract dust and dirt on the field. Wet your googles with a soft rag and spray bottle before wiping it.
Bring an extra set to clothes and shoes to change into after your paintball matches and you will also need a small garbage bag for your paintball clothes. When you wash your paintball clothes, wash them separately or you may end up with a colorful wardrobe. Otherwise you will end up with paint all over your care and home! What kind of clothes? Wear pants and a long-sleeved shirt to protect your skin. It is not a bad idea to wear a good pair of gloves and something to protect your neck area. You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money on specialized paintball clothing and/or camouflage clothing. Your clothes will get dirty, especially if you are playing on an outdoor course, not to mention the paint from when you get hit. Avoid bright colors such as red or yellow. You want to blend in with your surroundings so wear clothing in darker and natural colors including green, grey, tan and black. For cheap clothes, go to your local secondhand story or army-navy surplus store.
Paintball is a very physical activity. Wear a pair of shoes or boots that are comfortable and that you have already broken in. Blisters from a new pair of shoes or shoes that don’t fit correctly will bring your paintball matches to a painful stop. Bad socks are often the forgotten culprit of many a blister. Buy a pair of crew length or tube athletic or hiking socks. The longer length will protect your ankles from a paintball hit. Outdoors it is even more important to wear longer, and not ankle, socks to protect your ankle and leg from getting scratched. Longer socks also help to protect you from insect bites. Back to shoes, an old pair of tennis shoes works great for a novice paintball player. Whatever shoes you wear, like your clothes, they will get dirty, especially at an outdoor field.
Bring water to drink.It is important to stay hydrated in the hot heat of summer. If you are expecting to play for an extended amount of time, you might also want to bring some snacks to eat. Bring some band-aids and antibiotic for treating any blisters, cuts or scrapes. Bring your questions veteran paintballers are typically happy to help out a starting paintball player with advice. Finally, bring your smile and have fun on the field.
