My dog has begun to have small animal issues what do I do?
My 1 yr old pit mix has begun to have issues with small animals such as cats rabbits little dogs really anything she can chase, i wouldn’t exactly call it aggression because its more playful than vicious. She chases pounces and bats around these smaller animals and recently killed the neighbors cat by puncturing a small hole in her rib cage making her unable to breath. Shes never had people aggression and doesn’t fight with my other dog either (a rotti mastiff mix) I don’t know whether im being naive in thinking shes playful but too strong for her own good or if im over thinking this, I found a no-kill shelter that specializes in bully breeds but im hesitant to get rid of a part of my family if this is something i can prevent and is a mistake ive made as an owner that’s led to her behavior… please don’t be judgmental on her being a pit-bull shes a loving people friendly dog that is otherwise playful and gentle…
Firstly i have nothing Against the APBT i know a 14 year old one your dog is not in control if its chasing other Animal how can the dog chase them if he is on a lead simple answer if you are in control of that dog he cant.
your dog needs training whilst some dogs have high prey drive the 24 year old dog i know does not do that and this is down to you its your responsibility to keep that dog leashed muzzled if necessary and get him and you into training before you have a law suit on your hands
