’97 GMC Pickup 4L60E Tranny Torque Convertor Lock-Up Problems… Only Tranny GODS Reply?
I’ve been mixed signals from the people I have talked to.
the truck has 176k on it now. The problem has existed for ~3000 miles and fluid is not burnt or discolored, and correct level. Truck hasn’t thrown any codes. Brake pedal switch adjusted correctly.
Normally, when in OD, the TC would lock at 75+mph no matter the load or throttle position. Lately, it is having a hard time locking. Say I have the cruise set at 80, it downshifts to 3rd on a hill; when over the hill and it upshifts, the TC MAY not lock, and continue to slip till I cancel the cruise control (to back off the throttle some to allow the TC to lock) then the load can be re-applied. Once locked, it will hold engaged as normal operation.
I am not allowing the TC to slip (I back off to allow it to engage) to prevent cooking the tranny.
Could this be caused by the TCC PWM Solenoid? Computer/electrical issue. I don’t see it to be the TPS because it is a speed related problem. Thank you
Given the variables listed, I am to believe the tranny is original; in other words it has not been rebuilt. First I would check the speed sensor for build-up by pulling the sensor out of the tail housing. Careful not to get trans fluid on yourself you will spill “some”. If I were doing the work myself, next thing I would have to look at is the TC screen for blockage (this is internal work). Worse case scenario would be slightly worn converter. If you want to avoid the headache, a scan of the tranny with tranny software might be what your looking for. Good Luck.
