Two Ways To Resolve Windows Slow Startup
Windows slow startup often reveals a whole lot of things about your pc. As there are a lot of thing that can make PC boot up to slow down. The good news is there are also plenty of solutions available. Here are just two of them:
Your computer registry is bloated – When you first bought your computer, it has nothing in it save for default programs, files needed to run its system and a couple of other things, that’s why it was extremely fast. A year into using it and it could pile up so many files and applications in the Windows startup folder which you either installed or downloaded from different sources. Eventually, it becomes congested and loses much of its original setting.
The point is, many files and programs you download or install are configured to create directories in the startup folder, ultimately congesting the files that are originally run during booting up. When they do, your machine will instantly slow down during booting up and the general speed of your pc becomes affected.
The solution to this is to remove the applications that cause the slowing down of your startup. This, you can easily do by accessing the MSCONFIG tool. On Windows XP, click START then go to RUN. A box will then appear and in it type ‘msconfig’ and you will be directed to another window. If you are working on a Windows Vista, you will find the procedure to be similar, only it is less complicated. The only difference is that there is no need to select the RUN tool. After hitting the START button, you will type the MSCONFIG command in the search tab.
Now, go to the Startup tab and examine the long list of programs. This is the list of applications and programs that are initialized during startup. What you want to do is to leave the essential programs checked and uncheck all the others. Click the OK button and select RESTART when a prompt message pops up.
Now, you will want to be very careful when changing anything in this tab. If you are not sure what a particular program does, don’t change it.
Your hard drive has failures – There are plenty of odd things that can lead to hard drive failure. Heavily fragmented hard disk, not enough disk space, and bugs are just some examples. All these can be guilty of bogging down your computer.
Again, like other computer problems, hard drive failure has solutions. For this particular problem, the solution is defragmentation. It’s a windows utility application which fixes bad sectors and organizes them. For limited free disk, you can free up disk space. Remove programs, files and applications that you don’t need and you will have plenty more space than what is currently available. Do this only though if you are familiar with the program. If you are not and you can’t familiarize yourself with a particular program, leave the application alone. Where malware is concerned, run a decent malware removal program.
Any of these operations can fix Windows slow startup and boost your PC performance, in general.
