Logitech G27 Review
If you have ever played a racing game at a gaming arcade, you will know the reality of having a steering wheel, gears and pedals to use. Logitech released the G25 racing wheel a little while back, which has been a huge success amongst racing game fans. As a replacement to the awesome G25, it was of great interest to me whether this new model actually was a whole lot better, or simply had unnecessary hype around it. I was interested to know especially what gaming fanatics had to say about the product.
Logitech G27 Specifications
Compared to the outgoing G25 wheel, the G27’s dual motor feedback system is much quieter and more responsive. This means for more accurate and slicker moves on the track. In fact, the steering wheel has a much more real feeling to it. Further to add to the realism, the G27’s steering wheel will allow you to turn 900 degree’s similar to a real steering wheel.

For some serious fun and challenge, the package comes with a six speed manual shifter. Off course, this makes the driving a whole lot more fun, especially if you compare trying to use random buttons on a control pad instead.
The paddle shifters on the steering wheel of the Logitech G27 allow you to make the fast moves and gear shifts needed for playing F1 racing games. Color coded LED’s at the top of the steering wheel act as shift lights so you can keep your eyes firmly ahead whilst driving.
The wheel itself is finished in quality hand stitched leather. Even the gear selector is wrapped in leather whilst the rest is in quality plastic or steel. Even the pedals are finished in steel and looks authentic of the real thing. The pedals are all weighted differently to accurately reflect pedals of a real stick shift.
The steering wheel and the gear shift stick can screw itself on any desk with ease, so you do not need to worry about that aspect either. The pedals come with a optional selected spike system that will help if you placing the unit on carpet.

Good Points
- Quality Of Finish- All three components to the Logitech G27 are finished off really well and the attention to detail is significantly impressive. With the real hand stitched leather, to the chrome and steel, Logitech certainly invested a lot of thought in creating a realistic feel to its product.
- Great performance- As any racing enthusiast would know, it’s the performance that ultimately matters when it comes to determining the worth of the gaming tool.
- Quiet in use- During game play, this unit is exceptionally quiet which allows you to really concentrate on the actual game.
- Great Pedals- It must be noted that the feel of each of these pedals is very accurate and very realistic. The pedals area also adjustable. The pressure on the G27’s pedals has just the right feel to each steel pedal.
- Gear Feel- The shifter on the G27 has a fairly light and short throw into each gear and providing you know you to clutch a stick shifter well, changes can be fast out on the game. Even if you haven’t driven stick before, this unit makes it easy to learn.
Potential Improvements
- A lot of wires- The layout of the whole Logitech G27 has been criticized, especially given the presence of so many wires.
Verdict
The Logitech G27 racing wheel is an improvement on the G25 in many ways, and a good successor as well.
