Low-Cost Car Valeting
Driving a dirty car inevitably reflects badly on the owner. Being a car enthusiast, it irritates me to see expensive, fairly new cars being driven with months of baked-on carbon dust on the alloy wheels and paint dulled by going weeks without being washed. This view makes me sound like an immaculate individual proud of his outward appearance. Alas, if only it were true. At the time of writing, my hair needs a cut, I haven’t shaved for two days and I’m starting to wonder if I’m the source of the lingering smell wafting through the office. However, for me personal hygiene is less important. For one thing, human beings don’t have a price tag, and secondly cars, contrary to popular convention, do have a soul, they feel, they are sentient beings just like us. However, different from us they are incapable of determining their own destiny, and rely on their owner for a good quality of life. Perhaps these feelings stem from not having a family pet as a youth and so I assigned emotional qualities to the family saloon, although I like to believe science is moments away from discovering the human characteristics of metallic alloy and giving a voice to the auto world. Perhaps this acounts of my love of both the film and series Transformers…
The political and human rights of the automobile aside, keeping one’s car clean can be difficult. I recently moved into a flat and even my obsessive habits were not deep-rooted enough to allow me to wash the car in the residential parking car, travelling up and down the lift with numerous buckets of water. Instead, I began to frequent the car wash at the local filling station, but was always wary that the machine may scratch the paint or miss grubby nooks and smutty crannies. The so-called call polish these machines delivered was hopeless and whilst the car would come out reasonably clean, it rarely shined. In desperation, I turned to a local group of excitable immigrants to car valeting. Despite working long hours, they always greet with a cheery grin prior to around 8 workers descend to work on my tiny car. It’s almost hard to pick out the car amongst the furiously scrubbing workers, energetic in their approach. Costing a very reasonable £5 for an outside scrub, the cost is in line with the machine but the result far better. You even have the option, if you’re particularly lazy, for them to clean and polish the interior, and they even clean inside the doorsills and hoover the car mats!
Some may be reluctant to use a car valet, not least because there are rumours of the cleaners sometimes being light-fingered. I have never had issues of the sort despite leaving valuables and cash in the car, although if such items are easily removeable by thieves why not pre-empt the action by removing yourself? Portable sat nav systems are easily slipped into a pocket or hidden away. You could of course wash the car yourself, although for the increasingly lazy British public that isn’t an option. Just remember to keep the car clean, and your car will reward you with a pleasant drive!
