Do you think $18.63 per plate is too much for a professionally catered wedding?

Salad and Rolls
This will be served buffet style and you are allowed to have a
full serving of everything.
There will also be a full appetizer spread put out before the dinner consisting of veggies and dip, chocolate fountain and fruit, cheese, crackers and smoked sausage, and smoked salmon and shrimp
The average competition is $25(garbage food) – $35 (middle of the road Food) $50+(swanky food)
We are doing the event for 72 ppl and have gotten the over all cost per plate down to $18.63CND (my catering fees are free as I’m giving that as my wedding gift, hence how we can do an amazing meal for so little $$ compared to the competition)
Do you think this is a fair price??
The father of the bride, thinks its to high and wants to order Swiss Chalet (quarter rotisserie chicken, baked potato, coleslaw and a roll $8-10 each)?? The Bride and Groom and horrified at this idea!!
$18.63 per person is incredibly cheap. I don’t know what prices are like in Canada but the average price per person for a catered wedding meal in the states is $50-120 per person. But price doesn’t determine the quality since there are many restaurants that offer catering and have outstanding food for $10/person while many “snooty” places are in the $100/per person range and they often serve dime size portions of foods that people don’t know how to pronouce using exotic ingredients they would normally never eat.
What is wrong with rotisserie chicken and baked potato? I don’t know anyone who would turn that down because it is food that most people love. Many people would love to have a wedding dinner in a similar price range that isn’t inflated due to being for a wedding, and they aren’t stuck on their high horses unless they’re part of Paris Hilton’s social circle. Whoever is paying the bill gets the final say.
