The Normandy Double Bowl Sink – Number Two Sink
A traditional French farmhouse ceramic sink and the second most popular sink on sinks.co.uk is the Normandy Double Bowl Sink. Its continued popularity is due to the fact that it is the largest double bowl sink available at that site. It differs from other double bowl sinks in that it has two equal-sized bowls that can easily accommodate large oven trays, specifically those found in Agas. It is also the only double bowl sink that allows an Aga tray to be immersed in water fully. Because it fits with all kitchen styles, from traditional wood kitchens to contemporary kitchens where the ceramic adorns the seamlessness of the kitchen unit, this traditional French farmhouse sink is very popular right now. The Normandy Double Bowl Sink will suit all kitchen designs, and it is very practical too. It is perfectly suited to washing up all sizes of pots and pans, but is also ideal for washing vegetables and even defrosting large pieces of meat. Because of its generous proportions, it’s easy to rest a large leg of lamb in it comfortably to defrost.
Shortly after the introduction of Belfast and Butler sinks in the end of the 19th century is when French farmhouse sinks first came into fashion. Setting up a factory in northern France, two brothers, Emile and Andre Porcher, used local clay to produce their ceramic sinks. The clay used here was of a superior quality to the rough red Staffordshire clay that was commonly used at the Potteries, and allowed the French manufacturers to create a more refined product. Some designs dating from the end of the 19th century are still produced today, a testament to their good design. Continuing to this day at its factory in the Loire region, the Porcher name enjoys the reputation as one of the oldest and most respected name in the production of fireclay sinks.
The Normandy Double Bowl Sink features the manufacturer’s logo embossed on the side wall of the sink, giving it an authentic vintage look. Coming in a non-tarnish or a Satin chrome finish, the farmhouse sink will accommodate a 60mm basket strainer waste. You can also choose to use a plug and chain, although you will have to drill into the worksurface to attach the chainstay.
By following a few simple cleaning guidelines, fireclay sinks are easy to maintain and will last a lifetime. Cleaning daily with a non-abrasive cleaner like washing up liquid will prevent stains like coffee and wine building up.
