Even as glorious as finches might be in appearance, all its beauty and admirable nature will be grounded to nothing if their environment is dirty and untidy. The health of your finches depends partly on the cleanliness of their environment. A good way of ensuring that the environment of your finches is clean and healthy is by using cages for finches. Not just cages, but cages that are kept clean all the time.
How To Choose The Right Cage Size
The finch cage you will get need to have enough space for your finches to move around and exercise properly to keep and maintain optimum health. You don’t need to get finch cages that are lower than two and half feet long. To even improve functionality and performance, the bigger the cage you select the better. The cage material is also important. If you make the mistake of choosing a cage built with a wrong material, it might harbor some health risk for your finches. For instance, cages for finches that are made from brass are toxic and not safe for your finches. On the other hand, those gotten from wood and metal are known to be perfect and functional. If you really want to manage your finches effectively, consider getting a spare cage so that your finches will use it when you are cleaning their primary cage.
When you are about choosing your finch cage, make sure to look out for the following accessories:
Dishes to contain food and water
Giving your finches food in old containers that may probably contain the remnants of old food will get them sick soon. It is far better to provide fresh containers for food and water every time they are needed.
Grooming
You should provide a very shallow dish that is not too deep so that your finches can be bathing in it. Change the container several times a week to ensure that it contains fresh water and just the right quantity. The right cages for finches should have allowance built for this purpose.
Perches
Any bird, no matter the species, likes resting on perches. When they are not they, your finches will feel restless and appear starved. It will be appropriate to get a naturally built perches; made from elm, poplar, maple, pear or cherry trees. Also, using cement perches will help trim the nails of your finches and make them appear neat and clean.
You need toys
Cages for finches should be decorated with the presence of toys and you must provide this. Using things as noisy objects, swings, ladders, bells or by using other shinny objects will be remarkably enjoyable for your finches. They may get tired of a particular selection after some time. So it will be wise to have it changed from time to time. There are also certain other accessories you might consider getting if you want to add that feature that speaks differently to any finch cage. Such accessories include nest box and bird protector disks.
To help make your cage easy to clean, it is always better to use a newspaper on the bottom of the cage. This makes it easy when cleaning; you can just pull it out and replace it with another. You should always wash your finch cages with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly afterwards. Ensure you don’t use anything toxic or harsh chemicals, their consequences can be disastrous. Getting and maintaining clean cages for finches is the only way your finch can be healthy and live happily.
