That’s how much pain I’m in. When I just spoke to him, he was at the doctor having his wrist examined.” It’s good to hear that he’s doing well because when it happened, it looked like it could have been a lot worse than it actually was. You always worry when people take crashes like that about their long-term health and it’s good to see that Lavin has made a ton of progress and is getting back on his feet. Hopefully he’ll be back on the bike sooner rather than later.
On Friday night, December 3, 2010 at Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, threw a fundraising benefit party to raise funds and show support for BMX riders Ty Pinney and TJ Lavin. Lavin and Pinney were unable to attend because of their injuries from bike crashes. UFC president Dana White hosted the benefit to raise funds for Lavin and Pinney’s long-term medical rehabilitation expenses.
TJ Lavin crashed during a preliminary run for what was to be his last contest as a pro BMX rider. His crash left him in almost exactly the same physical condition as his close friend Ty. The two friends were both in medically-induced comas, just a couple rooms apart, at UMC’s Trauma Center in Las Vegas. All weekend, Dew Tour BMX riders wore Stay Strong/STY SRG shirts to show their support for Ty and TJ.
The TJ Lavin crash video serves as an important reminder to parents and kid of the dangers of extreme sports like BMX biking. Back in October, TJ Lavin was placed in a medically induced coma after getting into an accident on his bike in Las Vegas. You can watch a clip of the TJ Lavin crash video below to see what happened. TJ Lavin’s mom and friends have been periodically giving updates on TJ’s condition, and thankfully, he is on the road to recovery. TJ Lavin’s good friend, Tim “Fuzzy” Hall says, “He’s kicking butt. When I talk to him, he’s all there: memory and everything. He’s the same old TJ.

Lavin’s crash during the Dew Tour Championships in mid-October left him with bleeding and swelling on the brain, a broken wrist and an orbital fracture. Lavin remained in a medically induced coma for close to a week, but has made significant progress in his recovery since emerging from the coma. Doctors expect Lavin to make a full recovery.
Raffle items include a drum kit from Travis Barker, free admission to Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory and personal baseball instruction from Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino. 100 percent of the money raised will go to T.J. and Ty. “I’m in Hollywood right now, but we’re going to Vegas tomorrow for T.J.’s benefit,” said Hall, with a reminder that the benefit is not just for Lavin. “T.J. is really concerned about Ty Pinney. That’s a big deal to T.J. It’s not just T.J.’s fundraiser, it’s for Ty as well,” he added.
T.J. Lavin started outpatient therapy on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and is now walking, talking and eating on his own, according to sources close to the pro BMXer and television host. Lavin also made a statement via Twitter, thanking friends and fans for their support following his October 14 crash at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. “Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I have a while but I’ll make it,” said Lavin earlier this week. Lavin’s sense of humor has also returned.
Currently, the organizers are seeking donations for the auction, company sponsorships to fund the event, monetary donations and celebrity DJs. The Las Vegas native earned a silver medal in 1996 and gold medals in 1997 and 1999. In the years since, Lavin has remained an aggressive competitor on the Dew Tour Circuit while branching out as a TV host for 10 seasons of MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge.” The Dew Tour Championships was to be Lavin’s last contest as a professional before retiring.
