Nuke Proof Scalp DH Review
Manufacturer’s Description:
Taking its name from the legendary track at Moneyscalp Wood in Co Down, the Nuke Proof Scalp is our eagerly-awaited DH race rig, offering over 8 inch of progressive rear travel via a pull-link driven single-pivot suspension system.
The frame is build as a full DH race machine – 209 mm of rear travel to be ‘metrically precise’ The Bottom Bracket is nice and low, 63 degree head angle, build slack with the World Cup courses very much in mind. Nuke Proof claim to put accent main section tubing to add stiffness to the front triangle – understand, this should help to cope better with high speed corners.
Another impressive fact, I would like to mention, is the company sponsored team portfolio – so in 2011 season you will see all these DH team ripping the WC/BDSA scene courses on Nuke Proof Scalp DH:

That is some line up, I say!
The suspension system is single pivot linkage driven, it uses single piece rear triangle which then uses two ‘dog bones’ links to pull swing link which activates the rear shock, uh uh…;) To put it bit simpler – it gives you three stage plush yet progressive suspension action: good initial movement to smooth out the little bumps, the mid-stroke is very consistent and the bottom-out on the end is quite progressive so you feel when you getting to the end of the travel. ‘Dog links‘ are available in two different lengths to allow you change the height and angle of the bottom bracket. The head tube is full fat 1.5” to take most angle adjustable headset. B/B shell with is 83 mm, so no,no to XT or XTR cranks fans, but Nuke Proof claims it gives the bike way better transmission chain line.
So far is available only as a frame, but the complete is coming later this season or next year.
Sizing is good as you get three size option Small(15.3”)/Medium(15.9”)/Large(16.5”) – 572.3mm/592.3mm/612mm top tube length. For more geometry detail check the NukeProof site.
There are two rear shock options for grab – RS Vivid Coil for very affordable £1549 and upgrade for the keen Cane Creek Double Barrel for still quite unbelievable fantastic £1849.
There are three colour options as well – Yellow, Black and Silver. So combinations to choose from galore.
